Day 2 Sporting Events

Sunday 29th July 2012

It's a big day for Britain as Rebecca Adlington seeks to defend her title in the women's 400m freestyle at the Aquatics Centre while over in Greenwich Park, Zara Phillips makes her Olympic Equestrian debut in the team eventing. The Queen's granddaughter is the first royal Olympian since her mother, the Princess Royal, rode in 1976. After disappointment for favourite Mark Cavendish in the men's race, the women's cycling road race takes part over a similar but shortened course, much of which is open to the public for free viewing alongside the road. Team GB's Lizzie Armitstead is one of the favourites as she bids to emulate Nicole Cooke's Beijing gold medal from four years ago. A packed evening in the pool included four swimming medal events – including Adlington's race – while the diving competition will see its first medal in the women's synchronised 3m springboard earlier in the afternoon. Other medal events on Day Two include shooting, weightlifting, judo, archery and fencing, while the GB men's football team take on the UAE at Wembley Stadium. Over in Dorset on the south coast, Britain's Ben Ainslie looks to add to his three Olympic gold and a silver in the Finn class event as the sailing gets under way in Weymouth and Portland.

Gold medals up for grabs: 14
Today's medal sports: shooting, road cycling, diving, weightlifting, judo, archery, fencing, swimming
