There has been a cricket club in Ealing since 1871 when Tom Hearne and Rev E.S.Carter founded the club; the reverend having returned from Australia two years previously. The attractive pavilion with a turret for the scorers' box dates by to 1900. Today, Ealing's senior section, with more than 70 members over the age of 17 playing in the club's 6 teams, train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the season from 6pm onwards. Thursday is the dedicated 1st XI practice night where players can have a net on artificial or grass, bat against the bowling machine and work at their fielding skills under the supervision of Ealing's two professional coaches. Investing in the next generation, Ealing Colts is one of the best known junior sections in Middlesex and now has over 300 members including 50 girls. To get to the club from Ealing Broadway turn right on leaving the station, up Haven Lane and you'll see the cricket ground - or hear the sound of leather on willow - at the junction of Corfton Road and Woodville Gardens.
