Visitor Information
The Upper House of the British Parliament, the House of Lords is part of the Palace of Westminster, more commonly known as the Houses of Parliament.
The Lords analyses legislation, debates issues of importance, and provides a forum for government ministers to be questioned. The Committees of the House produce reports on a wide range of issues. The House of Lords also includes the Law Lords which is the highest court in the United Kingdom.
The Visitors Gallery is open when the House of Lords is sitting. See below for details...
Sitting Times:
- Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 14:30
- Thursdays from 11:00
- Fridays (occasionally) from 11:00.
You need to queue up to obtain entry. The queue starts at the St Stephen's entrance. There are two queues, one for the House of Commons and one for the House of Lords. The Lords' queue is usually shorter so it is easier to get into the Lords' Gallery, although it may not always be possible to secure a place for Question Time. Question Time lasts for 40 minutes from 14:40 on Mondays to Wednesdays and from 11:00 on Thursdays.
