Opened in 1930, Islington Assembly Hall, the headquarters of the Borough of Islington, was extensively refurbished in 2010 by Islington Council to become a live music venue. The grade II listed building retains much of its art deco interior and original architectural detail, including its magnificent stage. The listed Victorian building also houses the local Registry Office and Ceremony Rooms, and is renowned for its grand facade and imposing marble staircase. The main hall holds up to 600 people standing for a concert or up to 230 in a theatre-style layout for conferences, film screenings, award ceremonies and civil ceremonies. The tiered balcony seats a further 200 guests and is used at the majority of concerts held here.
