The low carbon district Energy Centre on the Greenwich Peninsula, designed by architects C.F. Moller, is to house technically advanced boilers and combined heat and power which, by 2030, will provide heat energy to upwards of 10,000 homes and 3.5 million square feet of commercial space across the peninsula. Most striking is the flue stack. The monumental structure - measuring 49 metres high by 20 metres wide - has been designed by artist Conrad Shawcross whose Paradigm stands outside the Francis Crick Institute in King's Cross. The Optic Cloak draws on sources as diverse as maritime camouflage, Cubism and Op Art to create a tower which filters daylight and is lit from within at night creating an optical illusion akin to the dazzle ships of the First World War.
