An Antipodean-meets-South American coffee house and kitchen, in the heart of Covent Garden, in a gorgeously relaxed space that encourages all-day dining and social sharing in the evening. Owned by mother and daughter team Lynette and Cloe de la Vega with Argentinian and Australian heritage, Abuelo (a-bwell-oh) takes its name from the Spanish word for grandfather and family is at the heart of the Abuelo's ethos. A restaurant-supperclub, the kitchen serves beautifully presented, simple, organic fare with sharing plates, wine and cocktails through the evening. Typical dishes include honey whipped mascarpone with figs and crushed pistachios, beetroot and rosemary hummus with garlic broad beans and arepas with slow cooked pulled beef, raw slaw and pickled red cabbage. Cakes and cruffins - croissant muffins with dulce de leche - are baked daily and served along with single origin coffees.
