Promising "high street steak" - that's high-quality steaks at high-street prices - Bar + Block in King's Cross is the first and flagship London restaurant of this type from Whitbread, who also own the Premier Inn hotel group. Banish all thoughts of Beefeater, the 28-day aged steaks here come from British breed cattle, grazed on the planes of the Pampas in South America. Not only that, each week the Butcher's Block features a rotating steak special. Steaks aren't the ony thing on the menu. Slow-cooked pork belly, beef short ribs and handmade beef burgers are ground and made on site. And there are lighter dishes like grilled chicken and falafel salad. Come for a carnivorous breakfast and you can feast on steak and eggs and salt beef hash. Wash it all down with craft beer, Champagne, Prosecco or a cocktail.
