Combining an old-fashioned grocer with an appealing delicatessen and an informal café serving a British and Mediterranean-influenced menu, Bill's now boasts numerous London and nationwide locations. This venue is the second to the Covent Garden area, a welcome addition considering the constant flow of customers at the St Martin's Courtyard café. Continuing the chain's spacious yet cosy atmosphere, the shelves are stacked with produce, appealing menus are propped up all over the place on blackboards and the staff are down-to-earth and very attentive. The varied menu serves as a great option for most times of the day, whether you're after an early breakfast, a lazy late brunch, a quick lunch, an afternoon coffee or a more substantial dinner (there's a fully licensed bar, to boot). Classics such as rib-eye steak, fish pie, and macaroni cheese are available, along with monkfish stew, pearl barley risotto and pan-fried salmon with garlic tiger prawns. Seasonal options are also available on the changing specials menu and the puddings are suitably indulgent - the pecan pie with malted banana ice cream is the perfect decadent treat.
