Sandwiched between all the curry houses, Chez Elles Bistroquet is an unlikely find on Brick Lane but it's one that you'll be glad you did. Opened by Nadia Brahim and Lili L' Hôte, who met while working together on the Eurostar, the pretty bistro gives guests the complete French experience. Decorated with Robert Doisneau prints, bunting, crushed velvet banquettes, birdcage lampshades and candles aplenty, it's a mismatched yet artful affair that makes you feel happy the moment you enter. The food, however, is the true attraction. With seasonally changing brunch, lunch and dinner menus, diners can choose between traditional French dishes such as burgundy snails cooked in garlic and parsley butter; charcuterie platters filled with duck rillettes, ham hock and gherkins; duck breast with breadcrumb and thyme jus; and ribeye steak with potato croquettes and salad. The onion soup is also a real highlight and the vanilla and pistachio crème brûlée is the perfect conclusion. Hearty, indulgent and delicious, this is the perfect spot to visit on a cold winter's day.
