Inspired by 1920s Brooklyn bars and Manhattan speakeasies, Jackson and Rye is the place to go for US classics like Mac and cheese, crispy crab cakes and rye cocktail concoctions. The interior of the Richmond branch has deep olive banquette seating and sage leather bar stools, gold hanging pendant lights and quirky desktop lamps, mirrors and dark wood paneling. A great place for a weekend brunch - choose from corn bread, yoghurt and granola, or eggs with bacon, and grilled toast - lunch or dinner, the menu includes American favourites like mac and cheese, crispy crab cakes and the toasted Reuben sandwich. The 'Steaks and Grill' section offers New York strip and spiced flat iron, whole lobster and grilled yellow fin tuna steak with roasted vine tomatoes and fries. Indulgent desserts include chocolate sundae with milk ice cream, chocolate brownie with butterscotch sauce, and toasted marshmallows served with Pecan Pie with rye whiskey ice cream. Which leads us neatly onto whiskey. Cocktails include Old Fashioneds and Manhattans, a fruity Breakfast Sour of Buffalo Trace and indulgent Black 'n' Rye with Rittenhouse, Kahlua, coffee and sugar.
