In the summer of 2017, Petersham Nurseries opened its first venue beyond its bucolic Richmond home, launching a lifestyle destination in Covent Garden, selling homewares, flowers, deli food and wine. The second phase, unveiled in April 2018, revealed a brand new central courtyard, Floral Court, where diners at The Petersham (for fine dining) and (the more casual) La Goccia opposite can eat al fresco. With its mature trees and seasonal flowers the courtyard really transforms this part of central London into a peaceful oasis away from traffic fumes, noise and distractions. Open from breakfast to dinner, La Goccia does baked eggs with spiced tomato and yoghurt brilliantly. The quality of the ingredients stands out in simple fruit platter. Later in the day, from noon until midnight, Italian aperitivo and 'cicchetti', or small plates, are served with dishes prepared in front of you in the open kitchen, cooked in the wood fired oven or on the grill. The bar, hand cast from bronze leaves, is the perfect spot for cocktails, made using botanicals, herbs and edible flowers but on a hot summer's day the courtyard really is the place to be.
