Oli Hiam and Dom Hamdy, the pair behind gourmet scotch eggs pop-up Scotchtails extend beyond the meat-wrapped egg snack to fresh salads, sandwiches and toasties with Lundenwic, an all-day cafe and coffee shop on Aldwych, Covent Garden. Named after a 5th century Anglo-Saxon settlement in the city, Lundenwic was inspired by a trip to Copenhagen and everything from the menu to the decor is reminiscent of the Nordic cafes found there. It's open from breakfast when choices include pastries and freshly made porridge served with marmalade, cocoa nibs, hazelnut and honey on top. The menu of mix and match freshly made gluten free salads, sandwiches and toasties comes courtesy of young chef Matt Shea who has worked at B.O.B's Lobster and Salon Brixton. Crunchy, fresh salads combine courgette, asparagus, kohlrabi, peas, curd and red chilli; roast butternut squash with chickpeas, fennel and pomegranate; and pickled peach, green beans, feta and hazelnut. Sandwiches on sourdough are filled with porchetta, salsa verde and mint as well as vegetarian friendly options like butternut squash, chickpeas with lemons and chermoula. Coffee - overseen by head of coffee, Stan Przemek, from Flat White, Milk Bar and TAP Coffee - is by Workshop and there's an exclusive selection of bottled nut milks including 'Peanut milk'.
