Aiming to take on Pret and Subway in the sandwich stakes, Potbelly specialises in deep-filled hot, toasted sandwiches, live music and shakes. The sandwich shop on The Street at Westfield, Stratford City, is the first European Potbelly, building on a brand already well established in the US where it has 400 outlets and counts Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves among its celebrity fans. Potbelly's Chicago sandwiches include the legendary 'A Wreck' - a meaty extravaganza of salami, Angus roast beef, turkey, ham and Swiss cheese. There's the Meatball, with marinara sauce and provolone cheese, and the Mediterranean mix of hummus, feta, artichoke and red peppers for vegetarians as well as salads and soups. Become a regular and you can ask for off- ?menu specials, only available to those in the know. Cookies, freshly baked in store each day, and a 'hand- ?dipped' milkshake satisfy a sweet tooth and live music - a big part of the Potbelly appeal - adds some soul to your sandwich stop. Founded in the Windy City back in 1977, what began as an antiques store selling Potbelly stoves, is now a huge success story with plans for 10 stores in the next five years in the capital.
