Part of Peckham Market and located on the first floor of the Bussey Building, Tonkotsu serves homemade noodle ramen and gyozas and has a hand-painted mural on a feature wall. Launched by Emma Reynolds and Ken Yamada in July 2012, the ramen bar has opened at ten locations across London since then. Proving hugely popular, the restaurants serve a short menu with just five ramen dishes on offer: the Tonkotsu, Tokyo, seafood, miso mushroom, chilli chicken and a seasonal dish like curried pumpkin and spiced corn in the autumn. These mains are beefed up with sides like handmade gyoza, salads and crab korokke. The Tonkotsu is their signature dish in which pork broth is enriched with a lardo and sea salt base. Thin-cut homemade noodles are then topped with roast pork belly, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, spring onions, burnt garlic oil and seasoned egg, all in a delicious soup-y ramen. The vegan friendly miso mushroom is made with konbu and shiitake broth, topped with mushrooms and black kale. Drinks to wash it all down with include Japanese and UK beers and whiskies, sake and juices.
