Bringing Vietnam to Soho, with a pop art wall installation and Banh Mi sandwiches, this cafe offers street food sandwiches with hot fillings like Asian BBQ shredded pork, lemongrass chicken and ginger and chilli tofu. The basis for Whaam Banh Mi is the traditional Vietnamese sandwich which typically includes pate, sliced cucumber, pickled vegetables, chilli, coriander and a protein filling. Here they are quickly made up and served at the exposed banh mi counter. Whaam Banh Mi founder Tom Barlow started out with a street food stall and now his a bricks and motar shop on Great Windmill Street gives diners a choice of hot fillings such as meats, tofu, seafood and vegetables. While fillings will have a Western twist, the bread remains true to the Vietnamese tradition, with a thinner crust and a more airy center than its French counterpart.
