Independent pizzeria Zia Lucia builds on the success of its first restaurants in Islington, Hammersmith and Boxpark Wembley with this site near Goodman's Fields in Aldgate East. With their authentic Italian neighbourhood pizzeria, founders Claudio Vescovo and Gianluca D'Angelo bring to slow-fermented charcoal base pizzas to a piazza five minutes' walk from Aldgate East tube station. There's enough room to seat 60, including outdoor space in the piazza, at the rustic restaurant with a wooden pizza bar and a huge hand-crafted pizza oven tiled in white and blue hoops, shipped in from Naples. With an open kitchen, you can sit at the counter and enjoy watching the pizzas being made while sipping Italian style cocktails, prosecco or bottled beers from Italy and locally brewed in London. Choose from four types of base - all of them 48-hour slow-fermented doughs - including traditional white flour, wholemeal, gluten free and - the most unusual - vegetable charcoal black base.
