Drakes Tabanco opens on 7th October 2013.
Serving fine and rare sherry wines straight from barrel, alongside a Spanish and British food menu, Drakes Tabanco is a small restaurant from Copita and Barrica founder Tim Luther and business partner Nigel Howell. They hope to inspire a love of sherry on these shores - much as Sir Francis Drake did back in the 16th century, after whom the bar is named. Here you can sample a range of largely exclusive sherries including off-dry Rare Old India, a 30-year-old Antique Palo Cortado, and a limited release Fino en Rama. Drawing on tabanco traditions, you can sip on a glass of fino at the counter, fill a bottle from the barrel to take home, or buy a bottle of something rare from Jerez's family-owned bodegas. Head to the dining area at the back for small plates of charcuterie, cured meats, seafood including smoked scallops and gravadlax as well as larger dishes of octopus stew, lamb breast and pork cheek. A special 'sherry matching' tasting menu is also for groups to reserve, served at a U-shaped bar.
