Built around 1900 and formerly a power station and a renowned film studio, Gainsborough Studios is a mixed-use development of residential flats and commercial units beside the Regent's Canal in Hoxton. The likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Ivor Novello and Robert Stevenson all came through the film studio doors, while more recently some of the famous scenes from Guy Richie's Snatch were filmed here. Gainsborough Studios has hosted myriad music performances, award ceremonies, cinema nights and fashion shows - but much of the cultural aspect came to a close at the turn of the Millennium with a refurbishment for corporate ends, including offices and stylish residential units. The Studios now also boast a gym, Co-operative supermarket and canal-side café.
