When they opened their first hotel in Shoreditch in 2006, The Hoxton paved the way for design-led budget hotels, showing disbelievers that you didn't have to pay for expensive mini-bars and rip-off rates for phone calls or internet access. Its success has led to a third hotel in London as this 192-bedroom property on Blackfriars Road in Southwark, open in September 2019, joins existing Hoxton hotels in Shoreditch and Holborn. Occupying the lower six floors of a 14-storey building, the hotel is done up in a mix of industrial design and antique furniture while the history of the hops trade has inspired the botanical print fabrics, tiles and wallpaper in the lobby, Apartment and rooftop - home to a restaurant with sprawling city views across the Thames. Six floors of the building are set aside for freelancers under the title of Working From_ which offers 744 desks, five meeting rooms, a wellness studio with daily classes by local fitness club, Refinery E9, a winter garden and quiet booths for making private calls. "It's conquered east and central London and now Hoxton is poised to take the south" ran an Evening Standard headline when planning permission was granted in 2015.
