Pop in to this popular cafe for a Turkish treat from a traditional Ocakbasi grill. The crispy lamb chops and tangy pomegranate molasses will ensure your second visit. The oddly named 19 Numara Bos Cirrik is situated in the midst of a long stretch of Turkish restaurants on Stoke Newington Road. Despite the fierce competition this small Antolian restaurant has managed to build up a loyal following of customers who swear you will find no better lamb kebabs this side of Istanbul. The decor is simple, long cafe tables face the Ocakbasi charcoal grill which sends out delicious wafts of meaty smoke. Most regulars recommend you go easy on the starters as the waiters provide a complimentary grilled onion and pomegranate salad alongside their dangerously moreish Turkish breads. Select from their tempting array of fresh shish kebabs, BBQ grilled fish, oven baked casseroles and hearty vegetarian dishes. Effes beer is the standard accompaniment to your meal, however drinking may not be such a priority once you see the size of the main dishes. Portions are plentiful to say the least. The prices are reasonable, the service is generous and the food is skilfully prepared. This relaxed Turkish restaurant is well worth a visit.
