I've never been to an Indian restaurant in London that reminded me quite so much of Bombay as Blue Ginger. The location is a part of this -it's in the heart of Harrow's Asian community, with the local temple visible through the window - but food, decor and ambience are all, for better or worse, thoroughly authentic.

This means that the busy bar area is dominated by dozens of flat screen televisions playing Bollywood hits. I imagine it would also be an excellent place to watch the cricket, especially if one of the teams from the sub-continent was playing.

The restaurant is more sedate, with clean decor and a tinkling waterfall providing the backdrop. There are English curryhouse staples on the menu, including a truly fabulous chicken tikka. There is also some less common Indian fare, and that most delightfully greasy of world cuisines, Bombay Chinese.

Some of what they serve is a bit of a shock to Western palates. There's no real distinction between the natural and the ersatz. One of the dips for their excellent, freshly made Poppadoms was the kind of brown curry sauce you'd squeeze from a bottle in a chip shop. tasty, but a bit surprising. There are also some very fiery dishes on the menu.

This is a very, very good restaurant for the price. though a bit of a trek from the tube, it is genuinely different from anywhere else. Less adventurous diners would do well to stick to the Tikka.
