This Italian import is one of the best-designed restaurants I have been to in West London. Gleaming white walls and plain wooden décor create the feeling of rustic Italy, while some impressively brash art, including a hilarious cutlery chandelier, give it a touch of metropolitan cool. The food is also beautifully presented, with brightly coloured dishes imaginatively stacked, and slathered in sauces.
I have always believed, as a vague rule of thumb, that a short menu is a sign of quality in a restaurant and the Osteria dell’Arancio has the shortest I have ever seen. With only two options for each course and some imaginative use of ingredients, this should definitely be avoided by fussy eaters. Still, for those with broad tastes this offers exciting gourmet Italian cuisine, with the courses interspersed with little nibbles of Italian delicacies.
Given the lack of choice, the cooking does not quite live up to a £30 price tag (for four courses). We ate much that was good, but nothing really spectacular. However, so long as you are aware that you are partly paying for the sheer pleasure of eating in such fun surroundings, you will not be disappointed by this imaginative, friendly and beautiful restaurant.
