Overlooking the picturesque Church of Mary Magdalen on London Bridge's historic Bermondsey Street, Pizarro is the larger, 80-seater bar and restaurant from Spanish chef Jose Pizarro. The former head chef at Tapas Brindisa also owns the small tapas bar, Jose, one block away with just four tables and a no bookings policy, it can be frustratingly hard to get in. This more formal restaurant gets busy too but the good news is you can book and get your chops on that acorn fed Iberico Jamon. Bar and informal shared seating at the front of the restaurant is held for walk-ins only, so everyone gets the opportunity to dine. Offering classical Spanish cooking freshened up for the modern diner, dishes like scallops cooked 'my mother's way' and roasted segovian suckling pig served with cranberry sauce are made using the finest ingredients sourced from the UK and Spain to conjure up the big flavors of rural Spain, where Jose grew up. The restaurant is open every day and you can sit at the bar for drinks, plates of cheese and charcuterie, aperitivos (cold appetisers) and desserts.
