Renowned for its delicious whole roast suckling pig and delightful rear bear garden, The Albion has become something of an Islington institution. Located on a small road in the heart of residential Barnsbury, this warm and appealing gastropub has been blessed with an impressively faithful Georgian restoration which showcases the place's rickety floors, nostalgic wood-panelled walls and appealing mixture of varied chairs and tables. While The Albion is a previous winner of The Observer's gong for 'Best Sunday Lunch', the food splits opinion with some lauding its hearty nature and others flagging up small portions, smaller flavours and hefty costs. Food may be at the forefront of The Albion's present day ethos, but you don't have to eat to enjoy your time in what is a truly wonderful setting. The French windows in the restaurant area open onto over 450 square metres of wisteria-filled English country garden - one of the best beer gardens in the area - while the interior is quite something. It's also in a miraculously quiet spot, so if you catch it when it's not too busy, this is one of the most pleasant places in the area for a summer drink.
