Visitor Information
Fish Club is to fish and chips what Gourmet Burger is to McDonalds. This place is the connoisseur in fish and chips. It has done great things with the hallowed British fish supper. With a conspicuous lack of greasy batter and soggy chips, customers are invited to elect their chosen fish from a wet food counter and stipulate exactly how they?d like it cooked. The fish is still served, of course, with chunky, crispy chips but for those who prefer to steer clear of the waist-expanding deep-fried pommes frites, you can also choose from mash potato, sweet potato or new potatoes. A nice pile fresh salad is flung in too. If you want to opt for something very different, the fish pie, oysters, shellfish, squid and fresh sushi are hugley popular. For those who suffer from a slice of fish-phobia the non-fish options are equally as tantalising.
The inventive new concept has also been injected into the interior and d?cor as well as the food. The place looks like an ultra-trendy minimalist bar rather that a weathered old fish and chip shop. The walls are adorned with wavy mirrors, a running stream flows under the Plexiglass floor and funky, retro steel dustbins line the edges for leftovers. Fish fanatics can perch on stools at little counters reading newspapers while their food is knocked up. Incidentally all the dishes from red mullet to their old-fashioned English puds are made in-house.
The best news is, in true English style, there?s a licensed bar. You can sup the odd pint while you wait for the food which arrives in exquisite boxing for you to take home.
This is fresh fish at its freshest. The owners even review the menu every day to shake things up a little. Amazingly, it is actually totally affordable. Perhaps, it?s a smidgen more than your average chippy but you really can taste the difference.
