Dominique Ansel, the chef and owner of Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York and Japan, the man who famously invented The Cronut - he owns the trademark for this croissant-donut hybrid pastry - sets up his first Europe-based bakery in London. The bakery on Elizabeth Street, in upmarket Belgravia, sells the celebrated cronut and also has a menu of some of Dominique's most well known creations, including DKA - similar to a caramelised croissant, this is the best-seller in the NYC shop; dough is layered with butter and sugar, then baked, creating a caramelised crunchy crust on the outside and a flaky, tender crumb within. Order The Cookie Shot and you'll get a warm chocolate chip cookie, shaped like a shot glass and filled to order with ice-cold milk infused with Tahitian vanilla bean. Or opt for Frozen S'mores - a cool treat features Tahitian vanilla ice cream covered in chocolate wafer crisps, enrobed in a honey marshmallow that is torched-to-order, and served on a smoked willow wood branch. Ansel takes bakery to another level.
