Gallery Yujiro occupies a culturally relevant spot. On the top floor of an industrial building in Bermondsey, it overlooks Building One the very place where Damien Hirst's first show 'Modern Medicine' was held. From there Charles Saatchi discovered the YBAs and a modern British art movement was born. Artist Dale Adcock and ex-advertising whizz Andrea Adcock (previously at Saatchi & Saatchi) set up the gallery to 'make a difference'; they give 30 per cent of their profits back to the community and graduates benefit from the cheap studio space as well as advice from critics and curators. They run workshops, talks and exhibitions curated by artists and guest curators. And the name? It relates to their links with Japan and they also set up residencies for Japanese artists.
