The first of many Hotel Chocolat stores appeared on the high street in 2004 and since then the company has gone on to open sixty or so shops in the UK from Bath to Birmingham, including several in London. This Soho shop on Old Compton Street is the fourteenth Hotel Chocolat to open in London and follows the same principles that founders Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris set out with when they first started - to make a better type of chocolate. This mission led them to buy their own cocoa plantation, the Rabot Estate in the South West of St Lucia, from where the primary raw ingredient for their high quality chocolate products is sustainably and ethically sourced. In 2011 they opened their first hotel, the Hotel Chocolat, a luxury resort on their estate in St Lucia where guests can help out with the cocoa harvest and have cocoa-infused massages. For Londoners, a giant slab of fruit and nut is the next best thing.
