Chef Ollie Couillaud and restaurateur Akbar Ashurov, owners of the nearby Lawn Bistro, have taken over the site of the local bakery in Wimbledon Village and given it a French antique makeover with oak flooring and black and white French lamps. From The Lawn Bakery's Spanish tiled bakery counter you can pick up freshly made croissants, pain au chocolat, muffins and Danish pastries. There's also a good variety of loaves on offer, including ciabatta,
focaccia, multi-grain, olive, rye, and walnut and raisin. They also serve a more substantial breakfast menu including hot dishes like porridge, scrambled eggs on sourdough with smoked salmon, boiled eggs and soldiers, and omelettes which can be eaten in - there's seating for up to 14 inside, surrounded by vintage Andy Warhol food prints - or out, at the two pavement tables. The menu stretches from breakfast through light lunches and afternoon tea with choices of Croque Monsieur, charcuterie and baguettes as well as sweet things like chocolate mousse and homemade ice creams and sorbets.
