Visitor Information
A delightful discovery, this well-established independent book shop was set up by John Sandoe in 1957 and has been owned by the staff since 1989 who've largely remained the same since the shop opened. Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and variously moonlight as poets, script editors, film hands and writers in their spare time. You can read their insightful reviews on the website www.johnsandoe.com. The stacks of books are spread over three floors of an 18th century building just off the fashionable King's Road. The shop space is so small that tomes are crammed in everywhere, up stairs, on the stairs, in nooks, on tables and around corners. A browser's paradise.
