When it comes to warmer weather, The Sun Inn in Barnes is aptly named with its courtyard patio at the front overlooking the village pond. With parts of the building dating back to the 1700s, The Sun Inn retains a sense of history with exposed beams, black and white Victorian prints and plenty of head-bumping nooks and crannies. Added to these are modern chandeliers, mismatched walls of light-bouncing mirrors and reclaimed wood floors which create a fresh, up to date ambiance. Food is a mix of seasonal dishes, pub classics and British specials including handmade Scotch egg with vintage pickle, smoked beef short ribs, West Country beef burger, cider-battered fish finger baps and pig's cheek flatbread. Weekends are a particular treat with eggy bread with bacon and maple syrup for brunch and Sunday roasts with all the trimmings. The generous garden out back, from where you can see the bowls club members play, includes a covered area for colder evenings and two full size ping pong tables if you want to try some sporting action yourself. Either way, there's ample bench seating for soaking up the rays while enjoying a pint.
